Are you serving burgers & chips or crab spaghetti?

In a gorgeous bay in Cornwall there are two restaurants. Both very popular, but subtly different.

One has a pool table and large TV screen. It has wooden benches and plays (quite loud) music. Staff are young, wear jeans and serve burgers, chips and nachos.  They don’t open til 11am but stay open late. They know their audience – young surfers and 20-somethings.

A stone’s throw away, is the other restaurant.

Staff tend to be a little older and wear branded (Joules) tops. They have colouring for kids and water bowls for dogs. Crab spaghetti is a favourite on their slightly more sophisticated menu. They’re open early for breakfast, but tend to be empty by 9pm. They know their audience – families.

Both restaurants know their clientele. They understand who they’re serving and what will have them coming back, time and time again.

Business is about understanding your customer’s story – so that you can give them what they want, how they want it. Every time.
